Staying Safe on the Internet

At Manorfield Infant & Nursery School, we take E-safety extremely seriously. We believe that it is the right of all children to feel secure and safe when using technology. We teach children to use the internet and other technologies safely, and to know what to do if they feel uncomfortable with anything they see or hear either online or through other technology such as mobile phones.

We teach the children to tell an adult at home or school, if they feel unhappy or worried about anything they see or hear when using the internet or any other technology such as a mobile phone.

When using DB Primary, at school or at home, the children know they can press 'the whistle' to ask a grown up for help.

Parent information to help your child stay safe at home and school

Here you'll find lots of useful links to sites that can help you monitor your child's Internet use. Search engines such as Google have ‘search settings’ buttons which you can alter to restrict searches and filter out inappropriate content for children. This is usually a simple tick box wizard which takes little time to complete.

It is advisable to have some kind of parental control software. Some software can be downloaded from the internet for free. Here is a link to the Which? website. There is a lot of useful information on this site about how to download software and set time constraints on Internet usage or limit search result.

Below are some links to some really useful sites which are relevant to parents with primary-aged children and beyond. Technology will keep changing so it's important to keep yourself up to date!
